November 2008 – Hartung Park Update

Dear Friends and Members,

This past week you have probably noticed some big changes at the old quarry, soon to be Hartung Park. I want to give you an update. Last Friday, I joined 2 other HPCA board members in meeting with the contractor (Bluemel’s) and project supervisors from the city of Milwaukee. We had a productive meeting.

Due to delays on Milwaukee’s end our project will not be completed before winter. However, assuming decent weather holds (not too much rain or heavy snow), the contractor plans to move lots of dirt and have the shape of the park completed before winter. The soil will then have a couple of months to settle. In the spring topsoil, sod, seeds, trees, paths, and playground will be installed. We will also have a community planting event for the rain garden. The wall of recognition will also be installed; I hope your name will be on it!

Over the winter the fence will stay in place. The contractor has also added hay and a small fabric fence as erosion control for the duration of the project.

Coming in the spring will be the playground installation. We hope that despite these tough economic times you will consider making a special one-time donation to support our playground! If you were waiting to see some action before giving, the time is come. We have made good progress in fundraising and with a little more help from people like you our goals can be met.
